MALAWI: Malawi U-20 Scorchers Thrash Guinea-Bissau 5-1 in World Cup Qualifier

Malawi’s Under-20 women’s national football team, the Scorchers, defeated Guinea-Bissau 5-1 in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Scorchers found the back of the net through Fatima Lali, who scored twice, while Victoria Mkwala, Alinafe Milanzi, and Mayamiko Mkandawire each added a goal to seal an emphatic victory.
In the first leg, Malawi and Guinea-Bissau settled for a 1-1 draw. The latest result means Malawi has progressed to the next round with a 6-2 aggregate win over the two matches.
Head coach Maggie Chombo expressed confidence in her team’s chances going forward.
“We prepared well for this match, and the girls showed great determination and discipline on the field. I am proud of their performance,” said Chombo.
She added, “If we prepare adequately and maintain this momentum, we stand a strong chance of doing well in the next round, regardless of whether we face Senegal or Nigeria.”
Malawi will now meet the winner between Senegal and Nigeria in the next stage of t
he qualifiers.
