Five innovators from various universities in Malawi have received funding totaling K7 million and K12 million each to support their innovative projects.
The funding was provided through the Unipod Malawi’s Faculty-Student Programme, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Mangani Chilala Katundu, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education, emphasised the importance of innovators and universities showcasing their research and innovations to benefit the nation.
“It is crucial that we promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in our universities, as this will help to drive economic growth and development,” Katundu said.
Nancy Chitela, Vice Chancellor of Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, highlighted the university’s commitment to developing new inventions that can assist the nation in various ways.
“We are dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among our students and faculty, as we believe that this is key to driving economic growth and development,” Chitela said.
Challa Getachew, Deputy Representative of UNDP Malawi, expressed his admiration for the innovators’ ability to turn ideas into products.
“It is impressive to see how these innovators have been able to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems,” Getachew said.
