MALAWI: Linessie Phiri Joins Global Youth Initiative for Early Childhood Education
By Smile Hamilton
A young Malawian advocate is making waves on the global stage in early childhood development. Linessie Phiri has been selected as Malawi’s only representative among 14 education advocates worldwide under the “Their World Global Youth Ambassadors Initiative.”
The initiative empowers young leaders to consult communities, listening to teachers, parents, caregivers, and local leaders to drive meaningful change in early childhood education. The ambassadors come from countries including Australia, Canada, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Colombia, the Philippines, Belgium, Egypt, Brazil, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria.
Speaking to African Culture TV, Phiri described her selection as an honour. “I feel privileged to represent Malawi while contributing to a mission that impacts children everywhere,” she said.
She will soon begin nationwide consultations, exploring how to best advocate for early childhood development and education. The project aims to build a shared global vision for early years, which will be presented at the International Financing Summit for Early Childhood in 2027.
Phiri’s achievement highlights Malawi’s growing role in global efforts to ensure every child has access to quality early education, showing how young people can lead change both locally and intern
ationally.
