MALAWI: Kabaza Operators Suspend Demonstrations After Meeting With Deputy Minister
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The Kabaza operators have agreed to indefinitely suspend their planned demonstrations following a meeting with Deputy Minister of Transport Baba Steven Malondera in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The operators had intended to protest against alleged harassment by individuals claiming to be affiliated with the ruling party, who were reportedly collecting loyalty fees from them.
During the meeting, Malondera emphasized that Malawi is a nation governed by laws. He assured the operators that perpetrators of misconduct would face justice and condemned the mistreatment of Kabaza operators.
Malondera reiterated President Lazarus Chakwera’s commitment to inclusive governance and respect for all citizens.
The government has been working to ensure that all citizens are treated fairly and with respect.
The meeting between the Kabaza operators and Malondera demonstrates the government’s willingness to engage with stakeholders and address concerns in a constructive manner.
