MALAWI: Government’s Fuel Supply Arrangement Brings Relief As 200 Tankers Arrive From Tanzania

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
A consignment of over 200 fuel tankers has arrived in Malawi today, as part of the Government-to-Government Fuel Supply Arrangement.
The tankers, carrying much-needed fuel, entered the country through the Songwe border in Karonga, after being shipped from Tanga port in Tanzania.
At the Songwe border, a number of truck drivers were seen waiting for documentation from the tax authorities, both inside and outside the border post.
Steven Tembo, one of the truck drivers, expressed optimism that the arrival of the fuel tankers would help alleviate the fuel scarcity that has been affecting the country.
According to NOCMA Spokesperson, Raymond Likambale, the loading of fuel at Tanga port is ongoing, with the organisation working tirelessly to deliver the commodity within the stipulated 30-day period.
The Government-to-Government Fuel Supply Arrangement is expected to provide Malawi with 51.5 million litres of diesel and petrol from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The arrival of the fuel tankers is a welcome relief for Malawians, who have been facing fuel shortages in recent times.
The Government’s efforts to address the fuel scarcity are expected to have a positive impact on the economy and the general public.
