MALAWI: Former UTM Officials And Artists Expected At Izeki And Jakobo Memorial

The former deputy to late UTM leader Michael Usi, together with activist and comedian Bon Kalindo who is also a renowned actor are expected to attend the memorial ceremony for the legendary comic duo, Izeki and Jakobo. The event will also bring together senior members of the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA).

Speaking to MBC Digital, FAMA President Dorothy Kingston said Izeki and Jakobo played an unforgettable role in Malawi’s arts industry through their talent, discipline and commitment to educating the nation through comedy.
Kingston explained that the duo’s work shaped modern Malawian theatre and inspired many young actors who are now contributing to the country’s creative economy. She said their legacy continues to live on in television, radio and stage productions across the country.
She added that the memorial event aims not only to honour their contribution but also to encourage the current generation of artists to build on the foundation laid by the late comedians.
Organizers say the ceremony will include performances, speeches and reflections from industry veterans who worked closely with the duo over the years.
According to FAMA, the memorial will also serve as a platform to highlight the importance of preserving Malawi’s cultural and creative heritage. Kingston stressed that remembering pioneers like Izeki and Jakobo helps strengthen the arts sector and motivates upcoming performers.
The event is expected to attract artists, fans and various stakeholders from across the entertainment industry, all eager to celebrate the lives and impact of the two icons.
