Former Flames striker Esau Kanyenda has died after being diagnosed with liver cancer while in the United Kingdom.
Earlier on Monday, December 1, 2025, Kanyenda posted on his Facebook page, saying he was fighting the disease and asked the public to pray for him.

Kanyenda, popularly known as Mamba, had been living in the UK after retiring from professional football in 2018, with Mighty Wanderers being his last club.
He began his football career in 1998 with Dwasco Football Club before moving on to an illustrious journey that took him across Europe and South Africa.

Throughout his career, he played for Jomo Cosmos and Polokwane City in South Africa, and had stints in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow, FC Kamaz, Rotor Volgograd and Dynamo Bryansk. The late Black Mamba also featured for a club in Denmark during the 2012 season.
