MALAWI: Fifteen Presidential Candidates Collect Nomination Papers For Upcoming Elections

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced that a total of 15 individuals have so far collected nomination papers to contest in the upcoming presidential elections.
According to MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa, the official period for aspiring presidential candidates to submit their completed nomination papers to the Commission will run from 24 July to 30 July this year.
Mwafulirwa further stated that MEC will officially open the campaign period on 14 July, allowing candidates to start holding rallies and other activities to convince voters to support them.
In addition, MEC has collected about K150 million in nomination fees from the 15 presidential aspirants. The commission has also received fees from aspiring members of parliament and ward councillors across the country.
The electoral body has emphasized that it is committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election process. It has urged all aspiring candidates and their supporters to follow the electoral code of conduct and to promote peaceful campaigns.
Meanwhile, MEC has encouraged the general public to verify their voter registration details to ensure that they will be able to participate in the elections.
