Malawi Fertiliser Plant in Dowa Set To Start Production by April Next Year

A fertiliser manufacturing company currently under construction in Dowa District is projected to commence production by April next year.
Owner of the company, Napoleon Dzombe, says once operational, the factory will be producing about 40 metric tonnes of fertiliser per hour, a capacity he says can supply the whole country within a short period.

“The factory is expected to produce about 40 metric tonnes of fertiliser per hour, which means Malawi can have enough fertiliser for the whole country in just 150 days,” said Dzombe.
He added that the installation of the manufacturing machines has already been completed, while the remaining construction works are expected to be finalised by January 2026.
Dzombe, who is the founder and Managing Director of Mtalimanja Holdings Limited, said the decision to establish the fertiliser manufacturing plant was aimed at easing persistent shortages of the commodity on the local market.
“The idea behind this factory is to ensure that fertiliser is readily available on the market and farmers are not affected by delays and shortages,” he said.
He further noted that local production will significantly cut costs associated with importing fertiliser into the country.
“Producing fertiliser locally will help reduce importation costs and, in the long run, make the commodity more affordable for Malawians,” Dzombe added.
