The election, which took place in Lilongwe, saw the participation of veteran filmmakers, including former FAMA president, Gift Sukez Sukali.
In an interview, newly elected FAMA president, Dorothy Kingston, acknowledged that the election was contentious, as some outgoing executives refused to hand over power.
Kingston emphasised that collaboration and unity are essential in addressing the challenges facing the film industry.
Kingston expressed her commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote the growth and development of the film industry in Malawi.
The election of new leadership is seen as a significant step towards revitalizing FAMA and promoting the interests of filmmakers in Malawi.
The outgoing executives had been accused of mismanaging the association’s funds and failing to promote the interests of filmmakers.
Kingston has promised to address these concerns and work towards creating a more transparent and accountable leadership.
FAMA’s new leadership has also pledged to engage with government and other stakeholders to promote the development of the film industry in Malawi.
