Breaking News Malawi – FAM Fines Mighty Mukuru Wanderers K1.5 Million for Fan Misconduct
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have been fined K1.5 million due to the misconduct of their fans during a match where they lost 2-1 to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the FDH Bank Cup on July 28, 2024, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
According to a document signed by the General Secretary of the Football Association, Alfred Gunda, Wanderers were initially fined K3 million. However, they have been instructed to pay K1.5 million for the time being.
The Football Association explained that the reduction in the fine was due to the intervention of some Wanderers officials, who managed to stop their supporters from continuing their unruly actions on the day of the match.
As a result, the association has suspended the remaining K1.5 million of the fine, giving Wanderers some relief from the full penalty.
Despite this reduction, the Football Association has issued a stern warning to Wanderers, cautioning the club not to commit a similar offence for the next six months.
If Wanderers or their supporters are found guilty of similar misconduct within this period, the suspended fine will be reinstated, and additional penalties could follow.
The Football Association emphasized that fan behavior plays a critical role in football, as clubs are held accountable for the actions of their supporters.
This situation serves as a reminder to all clubs to maintain control over their fans during matches to avoid financial and disciplinary repercussions.
