The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is convening a crucial meeting with electoral stakeholders in Lilongwe, as part of the National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF).
The stakeholders include officials from political parties, civil society organizations, traditional and faith leaders, the donor community, and the media.
This gathering aims to update stakeholders on the recently conducted pilot voter registration exercise and MEC’s preparations for the 2025 general election voter registration exercise, scheduled to commence on October 21, 2024.
The MEC has been actively working towards the 2025 elections, having unveiled the official theme, “Promoting Democratic Leadership Through Your Vote”.
The theme emphasizes the vital role of voting in a democracy, underscoring it as both a right and a civic duty. Civil Society Organizations have been accredited to conduct voter education for the 2025 General Election.
The 2025 general elections will be a significant milestone for Malawi, marking the country’s continued commitment to democratic governance.
With the elections approaching, these stakeholder engagements are critical in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
The MEC’s efforts demonstrate its dedication to upholding the principles of democracy, and citizens are urged to participate actively in the electoral process, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights exercised.
