MALAWI: Clara Kamlomo Urges Youth To Embrace Agriculture As Profitable Business

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Clara Kamlomo, a well-known advocate for agricultural development, has emphasized the importance of changing the mindset of many young people currently in school so they can recognize the great potential and profitability of agriculture as a business.
Kamlomo, who recently received the Most Inspiring Female Business Leader award from the Consumer Choice Awards, stated that her main goal is to elevate agriculture into a high-level business that attracts graduates to pursue it seriously.
She explained that her organization, Amazing B Projects, is achieving this by equipping young people with practical agricultural skills that can help them become self-reliant, rather than depending on formal employment. These include mushroom farming, piggery, livestock rearing, vegetable farming, beekeeping, and animal feed production.
In addition to winning the Consumer Choice Award, Kamlomo has represented young people and women from Malawi at major international conferences due to her impactful work. These include the G20 Summit in South Africa, COMESA, SADC, ILO, and AU, among others.
So far, through her organization, she has trained over 11,000 youth in various agricultural practices since she began this initiative in 2016.
