The Chewa Heritage Foundation (Chefo) has secured funding of K100 million to construct a cultural village showcasing the Chewa tribe’s heritage.
According to Dr. Sefren Khumula, Deputy Chairperson of Chefo, the cultural village will be built in Msampha village, Lilongwe, where the legendary Chief Chadza once resided. This project aims to preserve and promote the Chewa culture.
Dr. Khumula emphasized that while many people are aware of the Chewa tribe’s rich history, there is still much work to be done to develop and preserve their cultural heritage.
Speaking in Dzoole village, where Chewa chiefs gathered to share knowledge, preserve heritage, and honor their ancestors, Dr. Khumula stressed the importance of unity among the Chewa people.
The cultural village will serve as a hub for cultural exchange, education, and tourism, showcasing the Chewa tribe’s traditions, customs, and history.
The project is expected to promote cultural awareness, understanding, and appreciation, contributing to the preservation of Malawi’s cultural diversity.
