President Lazarus Chakwera will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Professor Peter Mutharika and Vice President-elect Justice Dr Jane Ansah.

Secretary for Information, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, confirmed the development, adding that the outgoing Vice President, Dr Michael Usi, will also be present at the ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place this Friday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Chiyamwaka explained that the government is working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the ceremony is conducted smoothly and peacefully. “This is an important national event, and we want Malawians from all walks of life to witness a peaceful transition of power,” he said.
Former presidents Joyce Banda and Bakili Muluzi are also expected to attend the ceremony, which organisers say will attract both local and international dignitaries.
The event will mark the official handover of power following the September elections, which saw Professor Mutharika declared the winner with 56 per cent of the vote.
