Commissioner of Police for the Central East Region, Devlin Mwamkili, has warned police officers under his jurisdiction to refrain from engaging in acts of corruption while carrying out their duties.
Mwamkili said the service standing orders of the Malawi Police Service require officers to maintain a high level of discipline at all times.
“Police officers must maintain integrity and professionalism when executing their duties. Any officer who will be found engaging in corrupt practices will face disciplinary action in accordance with our service regulations,” said Mwamkili.
He made the remarks during an engagement meeting with officers from Mponela Police Station, where he also stressed the importance of discipline within the service.
“Discipline is the foundation of the Malawi Police Service. Officers must report for duty on time and avoid absenteeism if we are to deliver quality service to the public,” he added.
Officer-in-Charge for Mponela Police, Mwizamose Nyoni Jere, said the station has in the past two months managed to reduce serious crimes by 15 percent following the introduction of a six-month action plan.
