MALAWI: Bushiri Reaffirms Commitment to Youth Football Development
By Smile Hamilton
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the lives of young people through sustained investment in football development across Malawi.
Bushiri made the remarks during a talent identification bonanza held at DAPP Teachers Training College in Dowa District, saying his involvement in football goes beyond short-term charity and is aimed at building a strong foundation for the future of the sport.
“I am personally committed to supporting young talent. This is not a one-day event but a long journey to ensure that gifted boys are given real opportunities,” said Bushiri.
He explained that his vision is to establish a clear and structured pathway that will allow young players to progress from grassroots football to the professional level, with special focus on rural areas where many talented youths remain unnoticed.
Bushiri also pledged to provide material support to community football teams, including jerseys, boots and training equipment, to help improve performance and morale among young players.
Dowa District Sports Officer Macmillan Maziya welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that will help promote football development in the district. “This kind of support motivates young people and gives them hope that their talent can take them far,”
said Maziya.
