The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has attributed the current cold weather in Malawi to the annual transition from the rainfall season to the cold season.
According to Charles Vanya, Deputy Director for Weather Forecasting and Observation, a high-pressure system moving towards the Indian Ocean has brought cool and moist air, resulting in the current weather conditions.
Vanya assured the public that the department will continue to provide updates on anticipated weather conditions as systems change.
In a related advisory, the Malawi Meteorological Services (MET) has warned Lake Malawi users to be alert due to Mwera winds expected to continue blowing at speeds of about 45 km/hr on the lake and other water bodies.
As Malawi navigates these changing weather patterns, the department’s timely warnings and forecasts are crucial in helping citizens prepare for potential disruptions. By staying informed, Malawians can take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being during this period of fluctuating weather conditions.
