A Big Walk is taking place, with participants walking from Bingu National Stadium to the Ministry of Gender as a way of condemning the abuse and violence that men are facing in society.
The walk seeks to raise awareness on the challenges men encounter, which often go unnoticed, despite having serious emotional and psychological consequences.
Speaking during the walk, one of the organisers said many men are suffering silently. “Men cry on the inside. They are going through serious hardships, not jokes, but society expects them to be strong all the time,” he said.
The organiser added that failure to address these challenges has led to devastating outcomes. “When these issues are ignored, we end up seeing many men falling into depression, and in some tragic cases, taking their own lives,” he said.
Participants say the march is a call to the government and the public to recognise men as victims too and to put in place support systems that protect everyone, regardless
of gender.
