MALAWI: Bakili Muluzi Urges Chakwera To Concede Defeat And Congratulate Mutharika
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Malawian Former President Bakili Muluzi has revealed that he had a phone conversation yesterday with President Lazarus Chakwera, during which he advised the incumbent to concede defeat and congratulate Arthur Peter Mutharika for winning the September 16 elections.

Muluzi said he told President Chakwera that taking such a step would help ensure peace and stability in the country.
Speaking to African Culture TV this morning, Muluzi stressed that it is now clear Mutharika has won the race, and the best way to calm rising tempers is for Chakwera to make a public statement conceding defeat.
“There is life after State House. I have therefore requested President Chakwera to call Peter Mutharika to congratulate him,” said Muluzi.
He further appealed to Malawians to remain calm and refrain from violence as the official results are made public.
