MALAWI: All Preparations Set For Saturday’s Inauguration Of Malawi’s New President-Elect

All preparations have been finalised for the inauguration of President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, which will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2025, at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The event is expected to attract thousands of Malawians, senior government officials, political leaders, traditional chiefs, and international dignitaries.
Shadreck Namalomba, Press Officer for Professor Mutharika, confirmed the readiness of the ceremony, saying all logistical and security arrangements have been completed. “We are fully prepared for this historic day. Professor Mutharika is ready to be sworn in and to begin serving the people of Malawi with renewed vision and commitment,” he said.
According to Namalomba, gates at the stadium will open at 7:00 a.m., with the main program starting at 10:00 a.m.. He added that local and international media houses will provide live coverage to ensure Malawians across the country and the diaspora follow the ceremony.
Professor Mutharika, who won the September 16 elections with 56 per cent of the vote, will officially take the oath of office as the sixth President of Malawi.
Diplomatic missions accredited to Malawi have also confirmed attendance, alongside representatives of regional bodies such as the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Security authorities have assured the public of peace and order throughout the ceremony. Police spokespersons indicated that additional officers will be deployed in Lilongwe to manage traffic and maintain order at the stadium.
