MALAWI: Airtel Africa Reports 10% Customer Growth, Surpasses $210 Billion in Airtel Money Transactions

Airtel Africa has reported a 10% increase in its customer base, reaching 179.4 million, according to its financial report for the nine-month period ending December 31. Data customers grew 14.6% to 81.8 million, with average data usage per customer rising to 8.6 GB per month from 6.9 GB.
The company attributed this growth to enhanced network investment. In addition, Airtel Money achieved two major milestones, surpassing 50 million subscribers to reach 52 million, representing a 17.3% increase. The service also exceeded the $200 billion annualized processed value threshold, reaching over $210 billion.
The report shows that Airtel Africa posted a profit after tax of $586 million, up from $248 million in the prior period. The increase was driven by higher operating profit and derivative and foreign exchange gains of $99 million, compared to $153 million in derivative and foreign exchange losses in the previous p
eriod.
