MALAWI: 62 Inmates To Sit For Primary School Exams In Malawi Prisons

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Prison authorities in Malawi have disclosed that 62 inmates are sitting for the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations this year.
According to national prison spokesperson Steve Meke, they initially anticipated 84 candidates from seven prisons, but 22 could not participate mainly because they completed their sentences before the exams.
Meke said education in prison has become a key part of the reformation strategy, equipping inmates with life skills to help them face challenges after release.
The Malawi Prison Service has established examination centres at Bvumbwe Young Offenders Rehabilitation Centre, Maula, Chichiri, Zomba, Mountain View, Kachere, and Mzuzu prisons.
