Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, has affirmed that Kenya’s economic recovery is progressing, citing improvements in the exchange rate, household income levels, and a reduction in the cost of fuel and other essential goods.
Speaking on Thursday, Kindiki credited targeted government measures over the past two years for the positive developments.
“This year marks the beginning of tangible outcomes from the challenging work of transforming our nation,” he stated.
The Deputy President highlighted that 2025 would be pivotal for furthering initiatives aimed at microeconomic recovery, job creation, and wealth generation.
Priority areas include reforms in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and the blue economy.
He also emphasised ongoing efforts in establishing special economic zones, Information Communication Technology hubs, affordable housing, and County Aggregation and Industrial Parks.
These projects, he noted, are crucial for boosting the country’s economic growth and improving individual earnings.
By the close of 2025, Kindiki said, programs such as the Universal Health Coverage initiative, Taifa Care, and education reforms would help lower household health and education expenses, leaving families with greater disposable income.
His remarks come amid speculation of strained relations between Kindiki and President William Ruto.
The Deputy President has been notably absent from several public engagements, prompting discussions about his relationship with the head of state.
Despite these concerns, Kindiki’s team has dismissed the rumors, asserting his absence stems from a scheduled vacation in South Africa.
According to sources close to him, the Deputy President took a break after a hectic schedule since the Kenya Kwanza administration assumed office.
“Claims of discord are baseless,” said a staff member, who added that Kindiki maintains regular private engagements with the President.
Kindiki’s last public appearance was at the Baringo Cultural Festival and Kimalel goat auction on December 17, where he reaffirmed his commitment to working under President Ruto.
