Kenyan Ministry Of Health Pushes For Public Registration In New Health Scheme
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
The Kenyan Ministry of Health, led by Cabinet Secretary (CS) Debra Barasa, has launched a nationwide campaign urging Kenyans to register for the State Health Scheme (SHA).
Speaking during a public event, CS Barasa emphasised that the new initiative is vital for improving access to affordable healthcare in the country.
The government aims to ensure universal health coverage by enrolling millions of Kenyans into the SHA. Barasa noted that the success of this program requires active participation from both citizens and political leaders.
“Affordable healthcare is a shared responsibility. We must come together to make this vision a reality,” she stated.
The SHA is designed to streamline healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable populations, and reduce out-of-pocket expenses.
However, the Ministry acknowledges challenges, including low awareness and scepticism, which it hopes to address through civic education and community engagement programs.
This initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to reform the healthcare sector and achieve sustainable development goals by 2030.
