A man in Migori County, identified as Stephen Odhiambo, received an 18-month prison sentence for his reckless behavior of hanging onto a helicopter during a wedding ceremony on April 13, 2025.
The helicopter was carrying popular YouTuber Oga Obinna.
Odhiambo, who has earned the nickname ‘Migori James Bond’, faced charges related to actions that endangered the safety of the helicopter’s occupants.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche, he admitted guilt, which influenced the judge’s decision.
He had been held for a week to facilitate an investigation prior to his sentencing. He was given the alternative to a prison term if he pays a fine of Ksh500,000.
During the court proceedings, Odhiambo expressed regret for his actions and requested a more lenient sentence.
His arrest, confirmed on April 15, took place shortly after a viral video of his dangerous stunt gained widespread attention online.
Uriri Officer Commanding Police Division,Enrico Lyomu noted that when apprehended, Odhiambo attempted to flee but was handcuffed and taken into custody.
In statements gathered during the investigation, the helicopter pilot indicated that Odhiambo’s actions put both his life and that of the five passengers in grave danger.
Witnesses reported that security personnel had instructed attendees to maintain a distance of at least 10 meters from the helicopter before it took off.
However, Odhiambo insisted on boarding the aircraft. When denied entry, he resorted to hanging onto the helicopter as it ascended.
This unusual incident occurred shortly after the wedding of renowned Ohangla artist Prince Indah in Rapogi village, while guests were departing the event.
Following the incident, Odhiambo was seen boasting to locals about his audacious escapade, claiming he was ready to cling on until they reached Nairobi.
