Kenyan President, William Ruto, has said that Kenya will be ready to co-host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in 2027.
He noted that the preparations for the three stadiums – renovation of Kasarani and Nyayo and construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium are progressing well.
“We commit that Kasarani and Nyayo will be ready by the end of this year for African Nations Championships 2025, while Talanta Sports City Stadium will be completed by December 2025 for AFCON 2027,” Ruto said.
Ruto spoke when he met with Confederation of Africa Football President, Patrice Motsepe, at State House, Nairobi, where Mostsepe expressed satisfaction with the preparations of AFCON.
The Confederation of African Football President is in the country to assess the progress of the preparation for the continental games.
On Sunday, Mostsepe toured the three stadiums with Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen who assured him of Kenya’s preparedness.
Murkomen noted that all effort has been spared to ensure that Kenya is ready for the games, adding that construction and renovation works are on course.
“I can assure you that we will be ready as Kenya and East Africa. We will support Confederation Of Africa Football (CAF) to ensure that these tournaments are successful,” he said.
Motsepe, who is also in the country to attend a CAF Executive Committee meeting, was impressed by the progress.
He expressed confidence that, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, who will also be hosting the games, will deliver successful tournaments.
“I’m deeply grateful and very proud of the exceptional that President William Ruto is providing in relation to football and I’m confident that with all of us working together, we will make African football among the best in the world,” he said.
