KENYA: Six Killed As Al Shabaab Militants Attack Police Camp In Kenya

By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
At least six people lost their lives early Sunday morning, when suspected al Shabaab militants stormed a police reserve camp in Fafi, Garissa County.
Authorities reported that four others sustained serious injuries during the raid, which occurred around 5 a.m. in the Biyamadhow area.
The assailants reportedly looted the camp and fled with an unknown cache of weapons.
Witnesses stated that some victims were shot while others were stabbed. There are indications that the attackers also suffered casualties in the clash.
Security agencies have expressed concerns over possible further attacks, citing reports of militant groups mobilizing near the Kenya-Somalia border.
Residents have raised alarms about sightings of armed individuals scouting security installations in the region.
In response, the government has deployed additional security personnel to track the militants and prevent further incursions.
A spokesperson for the National Police Service confirmed efforts to reinforce security, calling the attack a tragic and unacceptable act.
Meanwhile, fears of abductions persist in the area. Authorities are searching for a man who was kidnapped by gunmen in Garissa County after his vehicle was hijacked on March 19.
In a separate incident in Mandera County, three men went missing on March 17, under similar circumstances, with authorities suspecting they were taken by militants.
The deteriorating security situation has drawn international concern. The United States embassy has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting certain areas in Kenya, particularly along the border with Somalia.
Kenyan officials have yet to respond to the advisory but have assured the public of intensified operations to curb terrorism threats.
