By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi Kenya.
President William Ruto on Sunday joined the Luo community and regional leaders at Rongo University grounds in Migori County for the closing ceremony of the 5th edition of the Piny Luo Festival, a cultural celebration that brings together generations to preserve, showcase and pass on Luo heritage.
The annual festival highlights Luo history through language, music, dance, dress and customs, while also serving as a platform for dialogue, social cohesion and the promotion of cultural tourism and local economic activity across the Nyanza region.

Speaking during the celebrations, President Ruto underscored the importance of culture in shaping identity and unity, saying, “Our diversity is our strength, and by preserving our cultures, we safeguard our history while building a shared national future.”

Later at the Thimlich Ohinga Historic Site, the President was crowned a Luo elder alongside ODM Party Leader Hon. Oburu Odinga, in a symbolic gesture of cultural unity. The leaders committed to supporting the establishment of a cultural centre at the site to preserve heritage, promote tourism and ensure future generations remain connected to their roots.
