By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi
President William Ruto has assented to the National Infrastructure Fund Bill at State House, Nairobi, paving the way for a new financing model aimed at accelerating the country’s development agenda.
The fund will mobilise over KSh5 trillion to support major national projects, including clean energy generation, construction of mega and micro dams, expansion of road networks, and extension of the Standard Gauge Railway.
“The establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund is the most consequential initiative in the development history of our nation,” said President Ruto.
He said the fund will help close Kenya’s infrastructure financing gap while attracting investors to support key priority projects.
Among the projects expected to benefit are the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba and Kisumu, as well as investments in clean energy and water infrastructure.
“This fund marks a new chapter in financing our transformation, making us the architects of our own future,” the President said.
The signing ceremony was attended by captains of industry from Kenya, Africa and across the world, as the government seeks to position the fund as a key vehicle for long-term infrastructu
re investment.
