By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Odalo Mark on allegations of misappropriating Ksh.122 million from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
According to EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud, the MP is accused of awarding tenders to companies linked to him between 2017 and 2015, raising concerns of conflict of interest and theft of public funds.
Investigations have revealed that two companies Aztec Infrastructure Kenya Limited and Jebset Holdings Limited were used to secure lucrative contracts for projects such as classroom construction and borehole drilling within Rongo Constituency.
Aztec Infrastructure Kenya Limited, where the MP is listed as the sole director, reportedly received Ksh.122 million.
Jebset Holdings Limited, registered under the name of the MP’s personal assistant, was allegedly paid an additional Ksh.19.6 million.
The personal assistant is said to be the only director and the signatory to the company’s bank account.
EACC has confirmed that the MP recorded a statement in Nairobi following his arrest.
However, the legislator denies being taken into custody, claiming he willingly drove to the EACC offices.
He has also dismissed the accusations, maintaining his innocence.
EACC has urged state officials to uphold integrity and avoid abusing their positions to facilitate corruption.
This case is part of wider investigations into the misuse of public funds, including the Constituencies Development Fund, the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF),and other devolved funds.
