KENYA: Raila Offers Land In Kisumu For Affordable Housing Project In Kenya
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Raila Odinga has handed over five acres of his family’s land in Kirembe, Kisumu County, to the national government for the development of affordable housing.
The announcement was made during President William Ruto’s visit to the region, where he revealed that the land will be used to build additional housing units as part of the broader national housing initiative.

According to President Ruto, the project will be backed by Ksh.3.5 billion in government investment and is expected to benefit approximately 1,000 residents.
He praised Odinga’s contribution, describing it as a vital step toward easing the housing deficit in the area.
The president also stated that construction is underway at the Lumumba housing project nearby, which aims to accommodate 2,000 residents and improve access to home ownership.
Speaking at the site of the planned LV Marina housing estate linked to Odinga Ruto reiterated his administration’s dedication to expanding housing access for all Kenyans.
Raila, who was present at the event, said he is committed to collaborating with the current government to tackle issues affecting the population.
He emphasized that the donated land will not only provide housing but will also include essential infrastructure such as schools and healthcare facilities.
Ruto urged citizens to focus on development and unity rather than be distracted by divisive politics. The move marks a rare show of cooperation between the two political heavyweights, with both leaders highlighting the importance of joint efforts in national development.
