By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi Kenya.
The Turkana Cultural Festival, popularly known as Tobong’u Lore, kicked off on Monday in Lodwar, Turkana County, celebrating unity, peace and shared heritage among communities in northern Kenya and the wider East African region.

President William Ruto on Tuesday graced the 9th edition of the annual festival at the Ekalees Centre, donning traditional attire as he joined locals in the celebrations. Tobong’u Lore, a Turkana phrase meaning “welcome home,” has grown into one of Kenya’s most significant cultural events.

The festival brings together elders, youth, artists, pastoralists and leaders to showcase traditional dances, songs, poetry, storytelling and cuisine, while promoting indigenous knowledge, intergenerational dialogue and cultural exchange alongside modern exhibitions and policy forums.
