Kenyan President William Ruto was the target of a surprising incident in Migori on Sunday, when an unidentified individual threw a shoe at him while he was addressing a public gathering.
A video making rounds online shows the object narrowly missing the president.
Despite the sudden interruption, Ruto maintained his composure, paused briefly, and continued his speech.
His security detail quickly stepped in to shield him.
The incident has stirred debate across Kenyan social media, with some condemning it as disrespectful while others interpreted it as a sign of public discontent with the country’s leadership and economic challenges.
Ruto was in Migori as part of a development mission. Earlier in the day, he attended an interdenominationall prayer session at Kadika Primary School in Suna East.
He later commissioned the Suna East Sub County Office and presided over the laying of a foundation stone for a new technical and vocational college in Suna West.
The president also visited Kuria West to initiate the construction of the 298-unit Kehancha Affordable Housing Project, reiterating his government’s commitment to inclusive development and improved public services.
Despite the brief disruption, Ruto concluded his engagements as planned, emphasizing national cohesion and economic transformation.
