President William Ruto today chaired the inaugural virtual meeting of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee of Heads of State and Government on AU Institutional Reforms, bringing together key stakeholders from the African Union Commission, the High-Level Panel of Eminent Experts, and Member States.

The high-level session reviewed progress made in implementing the AU reform agenda, guided the finalisation of outstanding frameworks, and set strategic priorities ahead of the Special Summit on Institutional Reforms scheduled for November 26, 2025, in Luanda, Angola.
President Ruto reaffirmed Africa’s collective commitment to transforming the African Union (AU) into a more effective, accountable, and responsive institution, one capable of delivering on the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and addressing the continent’s evolving challenges.

“We are committed to the reform of the African Union to ensure it becomes a more effective, accountable, and responsive institution, fit to deliver on the aspirations of Africa’s Agenda 2063 and meet the evolving challenges facing our continent,” said President Ruto.
The reform agenda focuses on strengthening institutional efficiency, ensuring sustainable financing, streamlining decision-making, and revitalising key AU organs such as the Pan African Parliament and the African Court of Justice.
President Ruto further emphasised the need to enhance the AU’s governance, peace, and security frameworks to ensure the Union remains relevant amid shifting global dynamics and rising regional conflicts.
The meeting marks a major milestone in the continent’s journey toward a stronger, united, and self-reliant African Union capable of driving transformation and prosperity across all member states.
