KENYA: Police In Kenya Save 57 Patients Seeking Healing At Rongo Church
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Authorities in Rongo, Migori County, have intervened to rescue 57 individuals who were reportedly seeking healing at the controversial Melkio Joseph Mission Messiah Church.
Security personnel halted all prayer-related activities at the church during the operation, which took place on Wednesday.
George Matundura, the deputy county commissioner for Rongo, stated that the raid was prompted by the unfortunate deaths of two individuals at the church within the past week while they were pursuing healing.
Following the rescue, the church will remain under police watch as further legal measures are considered.
The operation coincided with a family from Nyamira County demanding the return of their relative’s body, who also died at the church.
The family claims that the church and their deceased kin’s daughter, who has resided at the church for over a decade, intended to conduct a burial service on the premises.
Jacita Achieng, the deceased’s daughter, maintained that her father’s will specified that he should be interred at the church.
