KENYA: Oscar Sudi Clarifies Source Of Sh45 Million Donations During Kenya Event

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, has responded to growing public curiosity regarding the origin of items worth Sh45 million distributed during a community event in his constituency, asserting that no government funds were used.
Speaking at the June 6 empowerment initiative in Kapseret, Sudi emphasized that all the resources came from personal relationships and private-sector supporters.
He described the event as a significant effort to uplift the local economy by equipping residents with practical tools and equipment for income generation.
Among the items handed out free of charge were motorbikes, vehicles, maize milling machines, water tanks, milk cans, sewing machines, and vending kits for products such as eggs and sausages.
Car wash setups were also included, with the Member of Parliament saying the intention was to foster self-reliance and economic activity in the region.
Sudi credited several of his close associates primarily from Tanzania for contributing to the initiative.
“I have a few business friends, including Rostum and Abdul. Alongside them and a few others, we pulled our resources together for this cause,” he said, declining to specify individual contributions.
In addition to the giveaways, the event also featured a fundraiser that reportedly brought in Sh100 million for various development initiatives within the constituency.
However, the size and scale of the donations drew scrutiny, with some Kenyans speculating on whether taxpayer money had been misused.
Addressing these concerns, Sudi reiterated that his influence and personal networks not public finances enabled the initiative.
He urged national leaders, including President William Ruto and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, to concentrate on countrywide projects such as infrastructure, while local leaders focus on community-based efforts.
He also advised voters to support leaders with strong business and social ties, claiming that such individuals are better positioned to deliver meaningful change at the grassroots level.
Public reaction was mixed. Supporters praised the MP’s generosity and transparency, while critics questioned the true origins of the money and the intentions behind such grand gestures.
Nonetheless, Sudi maintained that leveraging private support for public benefit is a practical approach in regions facing economic hardship and high unemployment rates.
