The United Opposition Alliance has expressed disappointment with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, accusing him of failing to address concerns over alleged police harassment, deployment of goons, and insecurity during opposition political meetings.
Led by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, alongside Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, the opposition leaders said the IG failed to honour a scheduled meeting meant to address rising cases of police brutality, church attacks, and violence against women and children.
“The Inspector General has resorted to unorthodox methods in the irresponsible management of police command. Instead of meeting us, he chose to play hide-and-seek and sent junior officers,” said Gachagua.
The leaders also condemned what they termed as the police’s failure to act on the recent attack at ACK St Peters Church, Witima, and other violent incidents across the country.
“His continued refusal to act confirms a deliberate strategy to shield perpetrators and normalise impunity,” said Kalonzo Musyoka.
The opposition warned that the police must serve Kenyans, not intimidate them, insisting that the law must apply equally to all.
“We will return to your office. You can run, but you will not hide,” G
achagua added.
