In a recent update from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), fuel prices in Kenya have seen significant increases.
Starting July 15 and continuing until August 14, the price for super petrol has risen by Ksh 8.99 per litre, while diesel and kerosene have gone up by Ksh 8.67 and Ksh 9.65, respectively.
In Nairobi, motorists will now pay Ksh 186.31 for a litre of super petrol, Ksh 171.58 for diesel, and Ksh 156.58 for kerosene. Meanwhile, in Mombasa, the prices stand at Ksh.183.02, Ksh 168.30, and Ksh 153.29 for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene, respectively.
Customers in Kisumu will see similar price hikes, with super petrol costing Ksh 186.15, diesel Ksh 171.78, and kerosene Ksh 156.83 per litre.
The rise in fuel prices is anticipated to contribute to a higher cost of living, especially impacting food prices and transportation costs across the country.
EPRA Director-General Daniel Bargoria indicated that the average landed cost for imported super petrol rose by 6.45%, moving from US$628.30 in June. Diesel increased by 6.27%, and kerosene saw a rise of 6.95% in the same timeframe, reflecting the overall challenges in the energy sector.
