Kenya today marked Mazingira Day, a national holiday dedicated to environmental conservation through tree planting, cleanup activities, and climate action across the country.

President William Ruto, joined by Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and other government officials, led Kenyans in the national tree-planting exercise held in various parts of the country.

In his address, President Ruto called on all citizens to actively participate in the national tree-planting campaign as part of efforts to grow 15 billion trees by 2032.
“We call on every Kenyan to make their contribution to the national tree-planting drive as we work towards our ambitious goal of 15 billion trees by 2032,” said President Ruto.
He announced that the government will provide seedlings countrywide, with the Kenya Forest Service and the National Youth Service mobilising 15,000 NYS personnel to revive 300 forest nurseries and establish 17 mega nurseries producing two billion seedlings annually.
The President added that the seedlings will include fruit trees, enhancing food security, export opportunities, and agro-processing, while also protecting water catchments and reducing the effects of climate change.
