KENYA: Kindiki Backs Ruto’s Leadership, Says Country On Right Path To Deliver Campaign Promises
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed strong support for President William Ruto’s leadership, stating that the government is making steady progress toward achieving its 2022 campaign pledges.
Kindiki made the remarks while addressing senior government officials during the official opening of the Third National Executive Retreat held at the KCB Leadership Centre in Kajiado on June 19, 2025.
He praised the administration’s economic reforms and its resilience in the face of global and local challenges.
According to the Deputy President, President Ruto inherited an economy in distress, worsened by the global COVID-19 crisis, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and rising interest rates in developed nations like the United States.
Despite this, Kindiki noted that the Kenya Kwanza government had managed to stabilise critical economic indicators.
“To my mind, we are not off track. We’ve made notable progress in restoring economic stability, from taming inflation and lowering fuel costs to strengthening the shilling and adjusting interest rates,” Kindiki said.
He acknowledged that the public has been critical of the administration’s pace, but explained that this is expected, given the ambitious promises that led to its victory in the 2022 elections. “This administration was chosen at a very difficult economic moment. Our commitment was to create an economy where every Kenyan has a fair chance at prosperity,” he said.
Kindiki urged leaders across government to intensify their efforts in delivering on the Kenya Kwanza agenda.
He emphasized that the real test lies in the final stretch of the government’s term, calling for unity, focus, and energy to complete what has been started.
“As we assess where we are today, it is important to remember where we began and the heavy lifting that has taken place since then,” he stated.
He called on citizens to reflect on the gains made so far and remain hopeful, expressing confidence that the country is firmly on the right path.
