By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
The Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti (MSS-Haiti) has released the name of the Kenyan officer who lost his life in a road accident, during peacekeeping duties on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The fallen officer has been identified as Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, 41, a member of the National Police Service’s Rapid Deployment Unit.
He died after a crash along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road in Perlerin 9 and was pronounced dead at Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville.
Born on March 8, 1984, in Machakos County, Nzuve joined the service in 2005 and worked in several regions of Kenya, including Narok and Baringo, before his deployment to Haiti as part of the country’s third peacekeeping contingent.
On Monday, personnel from Kenya, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and partner organisations gathered in Pétion-Ville for a memorial service.
His body was later transferred to the Dominican Republic for preservation ahead of transportation back to Kenya.
MSS-Haiti confirmed that several other peacekeepers were injured in the accident but are now stable.
The mission extended its appreciation to the Haitian army, police, residents, and fellow officers who assisted at the scene.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Corporal Nzuve’s family, colleagues, and friends during this painful time.
His service and sacrifice will always be remembered,” MSS-Haiti stated.
