KENYA: Five Killed In Narok Land Dispute As Violence Erupts In Kenya

Tragedy struck Angara Barrikoi in Narok County on Monday after a fierce conflict over land ownership led to the deaths of five individuals.

The unrest broke out when locals, claiming ancestral ties to the disputed property, staged a protest to block government officials from conducting a land survey.

What began as a demonstration quickly turned chaotic, with confrontations between residents and police escalating into violent clashes.

In the process, several people were injured, and a government vehicle was vandalized by protestors who viewed it as a symbol of unwanted state involvement in the land matter.

Health officials at Angata Barrikoi Health Centre confirmed receiving five bodies, all with gunshot wounds, where the victims died while receiving medical attention.

The violence left the community in shock and mourning.

Joseph Koech, the local Member of County Assembly, and activist Johana Kamilan, expressed deep sorrow after viewing the victims’ bodies.

Koech questioned the authorities’ heavy-handed response, stating the deceased were defending land that rightfully belongs to them.

In response to the tragedy, local elders and leaders are working to calm the situation, urging both the community and the government to seek a peaceful, lasting solution through dialogue.

As tensions remain high, calls are growing louder for an impartial investigation into the incident and justice for those affected.
