By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
There was a fire outbreak at Moi Girls High School in Nairobi, Kenya, Monday evening according to the Kenya Red Cross.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to battle the flames.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but early reports suggest it started in a multi-storey building.
Images shared online revealed significant damage caused by the blaze.
By Monday night, the safety of the students remained uncertain, although initial reports indicated that all had been evacuated safely.
Witnesses reported seeing three fire engines at the school shortly after the fire was reported.
This incident occurred just two weeks after schools reopened for the 2025 academic year, which began on January 6.
Moi Girls High School has a history of fire-related incidents, with one of the most tragic occurring in 2017 when a dormitory fire claimed the lives of 10 students.
A 14-year-old student was later found guilty of manslaughter, as it was determined she started the fire to facilitate her transfer to another school.
The Moi Girls fire comes shortly after another blaze on January 15 at the University of Nairobi, where flames destroyed parts of Taifa Hall and the Gandhi Wing.
Fire crews had to return hours later to extinguish a second flare-up at the same location.
