KENYA: EACC Launches 350km Anti-Corruption Walk From Eldoret to Nairobi
By Moses Punyuah, Nairobi
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has flagged off a team of anti-corruption crusaders on a 350-kilometre walk from Eldoret to Nairobi to rally Kenyans behind the fight against corruption.
Speaking during the flag-off, EACC Northrift Deputy Director Kuntai Ole Tingisha said the 10-day journey seeks to promote integrity and zero tolerance to corruption among the public.
“Their clarion call is ‘Journey to Singapore, Zero Corruption.’ As EACC, our mandate is to combat corruption through prevention and enforcement, and we fully support initiatives that communicate this message to the public,” Tingisha said.
Leading the team, anti-corruption crusader Mark Kirwa described the walk as a voluntary grassroots campaign aimed at shaping values and attitudes.
“For our country to achieve meaningful development, we must do away with corruption, impunity and bribery. The fight must start at the grassroots and with our children,” Kirwa said.
The EACC said it will support and monitor the team along the route, with stopovers in Nakuru before the walk culminates at the commission’s headquarters in Nairobi, urging members of the public to support the initiative as it passes through va
rious towns.
