KENYA: Directorate Of Criminal Investigations Presents Cyber Crime Unit Footage In Lawyer’s Murder Case

A detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cyber-crime unit, has submitted CCTV footage as evidence in the murder trial of lawyer Calvin Ngaira, in Eldoret.

Testifying before High Court Judge Robert Wananda, Inspector Daniel Kieny detailed how the footage captures events leading to the fatal stabbing of Ngaira, allegedly by fellow advocate Abel Mogaka.

The footage shows a three-day house party at an apartment near the Eldoret-Nakuru highway, hosted by a local lawyer.

Over ten friends attended, including the accused and the victim.

The gathering took a tragic turn when an altercation broke out between the two outside the apartment.

According to the detective, Mogaka is seen in the video holding a glass as he walks out, followed by Ngaira.

Moments later, a confrontation ensued, culminating in the accused allegedly using a broken bottle to stab Ngaira in the neck.

Ngaira, who had only been practicing law in Eldoret for three months, was rushed to Mediheal Hospital by friends but succumbed to his injuries on May 18, 2019.

State prosecutor Brenda Oduo, has applied to recall a key witness, Edith Chebet, to provide further clarification on what transpired before the stabbing.

The court is set to resume hearing on March 9, 2025.
