KENYA : DCI Summons Philip Nahashon Aroko Over Member Of Parliament Charles Were’s Killing

By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has issued a summons to Philip Nahashon Aroko, directing him to present himself at the nearest police station in connection with the fatal shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Authorities have identified Aroko as a person of interest in the ongoing probe into the legislator’s death.
The DCI emphasized the urgency of his appearance, describing the summons as obligatory. The directive was shared through the agency’s official account on X.
In their public statement, the DCI also appealed to members of the public for any information on Aroko’s location, assuring informants that their identities will be protected.
They encouraged use of toll-free hotlines: 999, 112, or 0800 722 203 (#FichuaKwaDCI).
So far, nine individuals have been apprehended as part of the investigation. Among those detained are the late MP’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi Ogolla, and his driver, Walter Owino.
The duo is suspected of being linked to a gang behind the killing.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen disclosed that some of the MP’s trusted allies may have been involved in the plot. He remarked that the crime was executed in a shocking and careless manner by individuals expected to safeguard the MP.
Murkomen vowed that justice will be served, asserting that the culprits will face the full force of the law and serve as a warning to others.
Charles Were was fatally shot on the evening of April 30 in Nairobi traffic by an assailant who escaped with an accomplice on a motorbike. Investigations into the murder remain ongoing.
