KENYA: Cabinet Endorses KSh4.7 Trillion Budget, Releases KSh4.1 Billion for Drought Response

President William Ruto yesterday chaired a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, approving key policy and budgetary decisions, including the endorsement of the KSh4.7 trillion 2026/27 national budget.
The Cabinet also approved KSh495.7 billion in transfers to county governments to support devolved services and development.
On drought mitigation, the Cabinet authorised the immediate release of KSh4.1 billion to scale up emergency response interventions in affected regions.
“We are taking decisive action to protect vulnerable communities and ensure timely support to drought-affected areas,” President Ruto said.
The Cabinet further approved wide-ranging payroll reforms aimed at sealing integrity gaps and ensuring statutory deductions are uniformly deducted at source.
In addition, Bills aligning the legal framework to the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) system were approved, covering assessment, funding, placement, and teacher training.
