KENYA: Alliance Girls High School Teacher Resigns Amid Grooming Allegations
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
Peter Albert Ayiro, a long-serving teacher at Alliance Girls High School in Kenya, has stepped down following accusations of grooming from former students.
His resignation, dated August 18 and directed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), comes after 26 years of service.
In his resignation letter, Ayiro described the sexual misconduct claims as untrue, stating, “I hereby tender my resignation from the TSC, effective immediately in accordance with the terms and conditions of service.”
He emphasized that making this decision was difficult for him and attributed it to what he calls false allegations.
The recent investigative report by Africa Uncensored included testimonies from former students who accused Ayiro of making inappropriate advances while serving as both a teacher and the patron of the Christian Union.
The allegations span back to at least 2018, with accusations that Ayiro continued to contact students and seek sexual favours even after they had graduated.
In his resignation, he expressed distress about the ongoing turmoil resulting from the allegations, saying, “I continue to endure evil, monstrous, and persistent cyberbullying, threats of physical harm, public humiliation, and even being ostracised from my church.
This has been an attack on my character, career, and social standing, putting me under great stress and strain.”
While neither Ayiro nor the school has made public statements regarding the accusations, the education office in Kiambu County has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, though its results have not yet been disclosed.
