In a surprising development, Premier League giants Manchester United have announced the sacking of Erik ten Hag as the club’s manager.
The decision was confirmed in an official club statement released on Monday, marking the end of ten Hag’s tenure, which began in April 2022.
The club also revealed that former United striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, would step in as interim manager while the search for a permanent head coach commences.
“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager,” the statement read. “Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”
Van Nistelrooy, who enjoyed a prolific spell as a player at United, will be supported by the current coaching staff as the club looks to stabilise its league campaign.
